Lights on and lights out – stay tuned

The map showed where nightlights have turned on and dropped off between 2012 and 2016. Nightlights provide an interesting way to study human activities and spread globally.

Since childhood, I found it very appealing to view the nighttime illumination of cities from sky or even space. Therefore, I was inspired by John Nelson to map the illumination change which may help us understand what happened on the ground such as urbanization or wars. Currently I only got a very basic lights on and out map, but I hope to continue working on the project to identify nighttime illumination change trend over years and link the change to human activities and natural disasters.
